Smart City Hackathon
Over the last weekend, we took part in the Smart City Hackathon at Forum Wizja Rozwoju. The event was run by ChallengeRocket and the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology in the buildings of STARTER startup incubator in Gdynia, Poland.
With our project idea Trash Away, we took 2nd prize of total worth 5000 PLN from a total challenge pool of 18000 PLN.
Over two days and one night (total of 36 hours), we have created a working prototype for a trash identification system capable of optimising transport of garbage using IoT embeded devices and electronic sensors, path optimisation algorithms and a prototype hub network. Our solution was built using Python (Django) and C++ for embeded devices.
To decrease costs of the proposed system, we have calculated that such system could use the already functioning heating wireless mBUS networks and hubs, that are in use in most major cities in Poland.
During the hackathon we had a short talk about our project with the current Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology Jadwiga Katarzyna Emilewicz as well as many mentors from the Polish technology scene.
Due to that success, we are planning on pushing our ideas forward and forming an actual registered company in the near future with the Central Registration and Information on Business services.
